One of the great things about being part of the public school system is snow days, or as we call them down here, inclement weather days. Because of the ice/snow storm that has made it’s way across the country, school was canceled yesterday, and also today. Yay! Unfortunately, the ice storm has crippled our state. Not only do we have ice on the roads, but we also have rolling blackouts! We must be of the lucky few who haven’t lost power yet, but I’m not taking chances. Most of the blackouts have been for periods of 2 hours or so, so what would that mean for us?
Without power, I think we might still have heat, since it’s a gas furnace, but we wouldn’t be able to circulate it throughout the house. We would, however, have hot water because we have a gas water heater. I suppose, if it came down to it, we could all huddle in the smallest bathroom, and turn on the shower to full hot. That would give us at least an hour of warmth.
We wouldn’t be able to cook anything hot, though. I have a gas oven/stove. We wouldn’t have internet, either. Wow. It’s like the end of the world, or something.
At least it will only be for 2 hours, if it hits us. My fingers are crossed that it doesn’t.
