Fun Friday Quickie, Dad Style…

As I’m sure you all know, Father’s Day is Sunday.  It only seems fair that I could at least do a Friday Quickie devoted to dads everywhere, and since most dads are given gifts, I thought I’d help you guys out by giving you some great gift ideas that are fun for Dad, and good for our planet.

  1. A cordless, rechargeable weed eater.  These don’t use gas, which we all know is good for the Earth, and if you can use solar panels to recharge the batteries, then you’d be saving the electricity and energy from your local power plant.
  2. A charcoal grill.  Even though I personally side with Hank Hill in the great grill debate, it would be silly for me to say that propane was more earth friendly than the scrap hunks of wood you can fuel your charcoal grill with.  Plus, as I’ve mentioned before, cooking outside can save more than just your steak.  It can cut down on your electricity due to less oven and air conditioning use, which will help the planet.
  3. Buy Dad someone else’s stuff, another man’s trash is one man’s treasure after all.  So get on Ebay or Craigslist and save something from the landfill.  Even better, get on Freecycle and get it for free!

Happy Weekend!

  1. My regional grocery store (Publix) recently started carrying as part of their line of generic brand “Greenwise” (organic/earth friendly) products a non oil based wood only charcoal with none of the petroleum flavors/fumes/smoke associated with regular charcoal briquettes. I love it because since it is real wood charcoal you don’t have to buy wood chips for smoking flavor.
